WORKFORCE DIVERCITY
Workforce diversity is viewed as one of the main challenges for human resource management in modern organizations. Despite its strategic significance, the greater part of models in this field implicitly considers workforce as a generic and homogeneous category (Alcarzar, 2013) . Diverse workplaces are composed of employees with varying attributes including, however not restricted to, religious and political beliefs, gender, ethnicity, education, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation and geographical area.
Northern Trust, a speculation administration firm with 17,800 employees, takes the top spot. The 128-year-old, Chicago-based company persistently delivers “widespread Diversity at Work training,” according to its website. Among Northern Trust’s best officials, women make up 38%, a level significantly higher than the 27% observed among S&P 500 organizations. African-Americans make up 23% of the board. “We seek an inclusive environment where our unique mix of attributes and diversity of perspectives can serve as catalysts for innovation,” says Northern Trust CEO Michael O’Grady. (Kauflin, 2018) .
Referring more examples,
1. At Facebook, the percentage of ladies in the organization globally is 35 percent, with the number of women in tech at 19 percent and 28 percent in management. Hispanics are 5 percent while Blacks are 3 percent
2. Two-thirds of managers at Amazon in the U.S. are white and internationally 75 percent are male. Overall, the organization is 61 percent male. In this nation, Blacks represent 21 percent of employees but only 5 percent of management
3. Hub Spot is 40 percent ladies and 32 percent of managers are female. It's very skewed to the young, with 60 percent between 26 and 35, 29 percent from 16 to 25, 8 percent 36 to 45, and 3 percent from 46 up. (Sherman, 2017)
MAS holdings are one of the best organizations in Sri Lanka. In the current scenario, employing diversified workforce is a necessity for every organization. So MAS’s optimistic objective for 2025 is to be a non-discriminatory employer in terms of age and impairment across their company with a 1:1 gender ratio in management positions.
Conclusion
A diverse workforce is a reflection of a changing world and can be considered one of the major characteristics of a company’s approach to human resource management. Many companies pride themselves on having a diverse workforce and its positive impact on the productivity of an organization can be proved through numerous example.
